Shafik Sachedina Uses His Entrepreneurial Spirit To Help Improve The Health Care Of People With Chronic Brain Conditions

Qualified dental surgeon Shafik Sachedina is the Joint Chairman of the Sussex Health Care Company based in Sussex County, England. Founded by Shafik over 25 years ago, Sussex Health Care is committed to providing care to patients at home as well as providing support services. Care for the elderly who suffer from Alzheimer’s and Dementia is a primary focus of the company. Sussex Health Care is one of several various health industry businesses that that focus on providing services for individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injuries that Shafik has contributed to over the years. Sussex Health Care has won several awards of excellence under Shafik’s guidance.

Shafik was born in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in 1950. He received his qualification in dental surgery in 1975 from Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School at the University of London. After graduating from dental school, Shafik spent a number of years as a dental surgeon before shifting his focus to entrepreneurial pursuits within the field of healthcare.

His career includes serving as the Chairman of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International and the Ismaili Leaders International Forum. Shafik is also the former President of the Ismaili Council for the United Kingdom. He is the head of the Department of Jamati Institutions at the Secretariat of His Highness the Aga Khan. His duties in this capacity include coordinating the programs of the Ismaili community’s institutions in 16 principal areas. Shafik is passionate about celebrating the Ismaili tradition of service. This work is done on a voluntary basis as the Ismaili community has a time-honoured tradition of voluntary service. Shafik is a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Ismaili Studies. The Institute of Ismaili Studies is a research institute based out of London that promotes the study of both contemporary and historical Muslim cultures. The institute’s focus is to foster a greater understanding of the relationship between Muslim cultures and other cultures and religions. The institute also functions as a meeting place for the Ismaili community which is a branch of Shia Islam.
